Your client’s project might be just another deal for you, and as an ethical & responsible home improvement contractor, you might ensure quality in your work, but is that all? Of course, quality & timely delivery of work are the pillars of a business but to make it successful (instead of merely sustaining in the industry), you need to go the extra mile and give it a personal edge. You build your client’s dreams in which they have to live for many years before they could go for another renovation. Thus, while a kitchen, bathroom, pool, or bedroom might seem central to your project, make sure you do not forget the other corners of their home in which they are likely to spend substantial time in day-to-day lives. One such corner closest to every homeowner is a closet.

A closet is a place where one starts their day. And who would mind a little luxury & sparkle to kick start the daily routine? Instead, your extra efforts will not only earn their admiration but more new projects as they flaunt their customized walk-in closet to family, friends, and neighbors. To help make your way into their heart, we have listed some tips that could help you nail the perfect walk-in-closet.

Assess The Space

Are you redesigning an existing walk-in-closet? If you think that the space is too small, you could suggest sacrificing some area from the room, so there’s enough space for the closet. Otherwise, they might have to use a traditional dresser later to hold their stuff, which is going to occupy a square foot of the room and look undesirable at the same time.

On the other hand, if your client does not have a walk-in closet already, you can suggest them to use an adjacent room, if available. If not, you could use a part of the existing room for the purpose.

Organize The Design

A closet has to hold multiple things including clothes, footwear, accessories, etc. Thus, it should have well-organized storage to enhance space efficiency. Before you get down to the designing, it’s better to sit down with the homeowner and ask for their requirements. Make a list of questions like the approximate number of clothes & other things to be stored, categorize of things they need storage for & space required by each (they might have many footwears, but fewer handbags or jewelry). This will help you variety and number of spaces they need.

In order to have the perfect wardrobe, you need to provide sufficient space for each of the items in your design.

Designing A Shared Closet

A closet that is shared by two people, especially if it’s him and her, can be tricky. Usually, men’s shirts are longer than the blouses of women. You should browse through closet designs for men’s and women’s, and eventually incorporate elements from both so as to meet all requirements. You do not need to split the closet evenly. It’s okay for one to have a little more space than the other if necessary.

Considering Ergonomics

The perfect closet is not only about making space for everything, it also requires you to make sure that all the stuff is easily accessible. Open shelves should be placed at the height of the waist so that the things in it are easily visible. Drawers for different things like jewelry, ties, cuff links, socks can be placed underneath the open shelves. Make sure that every item has a specific and right place. For instance, the above drawers can be used for ties & watches and necessary partitions for its storage. The things less used can be placed in the drawers below.

And now that we are talking about drawers, here’s a pro tip. Do not make the closet all about drawers. It’s okay to have some drawers for watches, jewelry, etc., but things like sweaters are better on shelves.

Similarly, you do not put shoes in drawers, especially not the ones at the bottom just because they are meant for the feet. You can install efficient shoe storage systems at mid-height for the purpose. The same can be done for handbags and small accessories.

Adding A Touch Of Luxury

Some luxury additions like LED lights to mimic daylight, specific light for dressing & makeup mirrors, a cooler for perishable cosmetics can be installed. You can also suggest them to add an espresso maker to make for a perfect beginning of every day. There are many more such options that you can find and present it to your clients. At the end, it depends on their budget!
