Changing the look of a bathroom is something many homeowners think about. Big structural changes or small installations, either can make the bathroom better.

One such small installation that is loved by many is a glass surround shower. It is a glass component that surrounds the showering area, separating it from the rest of the bathroom.

The Need For A Glass Shower Surround

If you are going to pitch this, you will need to know the need to install it and how to do it. This option looks elegant in the bathroom. The distinction helps maintain a clean look.

The ability to separate the shower area from the rest also paves the way to opt for a dry bathroom. The owners can carpet the rest of the floor as there won’t be water spilling from the shower. It also aids in keeping the bathroom clean and moisture-free to an extent.

The Installation

You will need a spirit level, drill, hammer, screwdrivers, hardware, and the installation kit. The installation kit has the wall panels, glass doors, hardware, and the rest of the items needed to install this.

The process may vary a little according to the type of glass surround and the brand used. Regardless, most of the steps remain the same with a minor variation.

  • Measure the area for the shower. We suggest using one corner of the bathroom so that you have walls on two out of four sides. Mark the perimeter of the shower to make installation easier.
  • Clean the area, especially the walls where the panels will be fitted.
  • Fix one panel to the wall. Depending on the model, you will either have to drill the wall or simply stick it using the in-built adhesive area. It could also use a combination of both. Use a spirit level to ensure that the panel is perfectly perpendicular to the ground. Repeat on the other side.
  • Unpack the glass and fix it onto the panel. Place the strip of shock-absorbent material into the panel beside the glass. Hammer it gently if needed. Repeat on the other side. Two pieces of glass would be stationary on either side. The middle piece/pieces will either slide or open, depending on the model.
  • Put the top panel over the fixed glass and screw it to the side panel. Use the spirit level to check if it is straight at all times. Attach the clip with the roller that allows the sliding glass to move. Repeat on the other side.
  • Install the base and clip it to the fixed glass. Fix the bottom rollers on the baseline. Repeat on the other side.
  • Unpack the sliding glass and fix it carefully between the top and bottom rollers. Fix shock-absorbing strips on either side of the glass to prevent impact while sliding.
  • Secure everything into place using screws at given points.
  • Finish by attaching the handle or other pieces of hardware provided.

A shower surround is one of the stunning bathroom ideas that would make your customers want to come back for more. When done correctly, these can stay in place for many years (provided they are maintained).
